I am a certified traveling notary and provide notary services at the NSOF in Suitland, MD, as well as in Charles County. Appointments are available evenings and weekends.
Notary fees are set by the state at $2.00 per signature we witness and no one can charge more for this service.
A notary can only charge extra for travel or other fees such as after hours.
Important things you need to know when you call a Notary Public:
- All signers must be present to sign the document.
- The document date must be the same day as the notarization or earlier, but NEVER later than the day of notarization.
- Do not sign the document or documents ahead of time.
- The Notary must be there to witness the signing of the document.
- All signers must have proper photo identification to present to the Notary.
- You must present a current and government-issued ID. A current drivers license or passport is acceptable; a Social Security card is not acceptable.
- The Notary is not a lawyer, and by law cannot answer any questions you might have about your document. If you are uncertain about anything, please be sure to contact your lawyer, or whoever provided you with the form before you see the Notary.
- The Notary is not allowed to fill out forms and it is the responsibility of the client to have the documents properly filled out. The notary will not notarize documents that are blank or where critical information is missing.
- Copy Certification: Maryland allows their notaries to make or witness the making of a photocopy of an original document. The notary’s signed and sealed certificate, attached to the photocopy, attests to the genuineness of the photocopy.
- The Notary is prohibited from certifying copies of documents whose true originals are vital or public records. These would include birth certificates, death certificates and marriage certificates. The originals of these documents reside with governmental entities such as county clerks or the state division of vital statistics. Only the governmental entity that holds the original public or vital record may produce certified copies.
- The Maryland Notary must complete a record book entry.
